Title: A Study of the Estimation of China Fir Forest Storage Volume by use of the Six Trees Method
Abstract: Forest storage is an importance index of forest inventory and monitoring. This research focuses on China Fir,and the research area is Huangfengqiao Farm which is located in Youxian,Hunan Province.During surveying,110 plots were set randomly,97 of them were effective. The survey of every specific plot included selecting 6 trees nearest to the central position, measuring the DBH,height, and the distance from the farthest one of the 6 trees to the central position. Then the covering area of these 6 trees was calculated on the basis of these original data in order to estimate the forest storage of these plots. The results have indicated that the estimated precision of average DBH and height are 90% and 88%,respectively,and the forest storage is 89%,under the condition of 95% confidence level. Therefore, the 6 trees method is an effective way to estimate the storage of forest.
