Title: Clinical Analysis of Primary Sjogren's Syndrome Complicated with Nephrocalcinosis or Kidney Stones
Abstract: Objective: To improve the understanding of nephrocalcinosis or kidney stones,a rare complication of primary Sjogren's syndrome( p SS),through analyzing the clinical data of p SS patients with the complication of nephrocalcinosis or kidney stones and systematically reviewing the related medical literature. Methods: The clinical data of 25 p SS patients with the complication of nephrocalcinosis or kidney stones, diagnosed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College from January1998 to December 2012,were retrospectively analyzed, involving clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, treatment and prognosis of the disease. Results: Of 25 patients( aged 42. 8 ± 7. 7,24 females and 1male),loss of bone mass or osteoporosis was observed in the 6 of 8 patients whose bone mineral density was tested. Of 25 patients, eleven patients were treated only by corticosteroids; ten patients were treated by corticosteroids and immunodepressants; four patients were treated according to their symptoms. Conclusion: The occurrence of nephrocalcinosis or kidney stones complicating primary Sjogren's syndrome is closely related with the disease activity in the early stages, the course of the disease and the treatment of the disease. Corticosteroids and immunosuppressive may be effective in controlling the development of nephrocalcinosis and kidney stones.
