Compared with conventional filler filled composites or fiber-reinforced composites, polymer/clay nanocomposites possess increased moduli, strength and heat distortion temperature, as well as decreased gas permeability and flammability without losing the light weight, transparency and good flowability of matrical polymer. The synthesis, structure and properties of the polymer/clay nanocomposite were elucidated.
