Abstract:Due to its abstract nature,people usually understand time concepts by means of mapping from the most fundamental spatial domain to time concepts.Those metaphors,in which spatial domain is used as sour...Due to its abstract nature,people usually understand time concepts by means of mapping from the most fundamental spatial domain to time concepts.Those metaphors,in which spatial domain is used as source domain and time concepts are constructed through metaphorical mapping,are image schema metaphors,also called spatial-temporal metaphors.This paper tries to interpret spatial-temporal metaphors with front-back schema,container schema and up-down schema.The analysis shows there are strong similarities between English and Chinese in the constructional process of indicating temporal concepts by spatial concepts.It also indicates that in both languages,interpretation of time concepts with spatial metaphors by means of image schema is feasible.Read More
