Title: Surgical tactics in abating anastomotic stoma fistula after total mesorectal excision for low rectum cancer
Abstract: Objective To explore some effectual treatment that can abate anastomotic stotma fistula after total mesorectal excision(TME) for low rectum cancer.Methods Totally 58 patients of low rectum cancer underwent TME from 2002 to 2005 in our hospital,37 male and 21 female,with an average age of 63 years old.The cancer of all cases located within 5-7 cm to anus and classified as Dukes A in 18 cases,Dukes B in 33 cases and Dukes C in 7 cases.Results Anastomotic stoma fistula occurred in 4 cases(6.9%) and nobody needed reoperation.Conclusion There are some effectual measures in abating the anastomotic stoma fistula,such as short operation time,good blood supply to the anastomotic stoma,application of double stapling device,reinforced suture of anastomotic stoma and effetive drainage.
