Title: Comparison of the effects of atorvastatin with simvastatin on lipid profile modification in patients with hypercholestrolemia
Abstract: Objective To study the effects of atorvastatin on lipid profile modification in patients with hypercholestrolemia and to compare it with simvastatin. Methods Fourty six patitents with hypercholestrolemia were randomized into a treatment group( n =23,atorvastatin 10mg/d qn)and a control group ( n =23,simvastatin 10mg/d qn).Blood lipid levels were determined prior to lipid lowering treatment and at the end of 4 and 8week treatment respectively.Result (1) The effects of atorvastatin in lowering serum total cholesterol(TC) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL C) and triglyceride (TG) levels were the same as simvastatin.(2) Atorvastatin decreased serum Lp(a) levels by 29.30% after 4 weeks( P 0.01) and by 20.26% in the control group.(3)Atorvastatin decreased serum Lp(a) levels by 34.79% after 8weeks( P 0.05) and by 23.54% in the control group.TC,LDL C and TG were not decreased significantly. The same effects of both simvastatin and simvastatin on serum TC,LDL C and TG were observed after 4 weeks or 8 weeks. Conclusion The effects of simvastatin on serum TC,LDL C and TG were the same as simvastatin.Lp(a) lowering effects were superior to that of simvastatin.
