Abstract: Biochar is an insoluble solid matter with high aromatization produced by biomass pyrolysis in completely or partially hypoxic conditions.In recent years,biochar is widely used in agriculture as a soil amendment and controlled-release carrier for fertilizers.In order to boost the study and utilization of biochar in agriculture,this study summarized the factors that affect properties of biochar and its effects on soil physical and chemical properties,amount of microorganisms in soil,and growth and yields of crops.The future research issues were also suggested.
