Abstract: Socialist transformation was a socialist revolution in the economic front, a great change from private to public ownership in productive relations and the greatest and most profound social transformation over thousands of years in the Chinese history. The socialist transformation proposed by the Party and the government was to meet the needs of national industrialization. The new democratic society was transitional in nature and the general line for the transitional period put forward by the Central Committee of the CPC was precisely a reflection of this situation and the historical necessity. A scientific appraisal of socialist transformation calls for a clear demarcation between Marxism and the vulgar theory of productivity. The main criterion for judging socialist transformation is whether the changes in productive relations promoted or obstructed the development of productive forces.
