Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of phased acupuncture in treating lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. Methods One hundred and eighty patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 120 cases and a control group of 60 cases. The treatment group received phased acupuncture and the control group, conventional acupuncture. The therapeutic effects were compared after 4 courses of treatment. The recurrence rates were compared after six months' follow-up.Results The total efficacy rate was 97.5%in the treatment group and 88.3%in the control group;there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).The recurrence rate was 8.6%in the treatment group and 20.8% in the control group;there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Phased acupuncture has a better effect than conventional acupuncture in treating lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. The former also has a lower recurrence rate.
