Title: A Comparison of Reiss' and Newmark's Translation Theories on Text Types
Abstract: Translation theories based on text type proposed by Reiss and Newmark contribute a lot to translation studies, yet there are differences as well as similarities in them. For a further understanding of their theories, this paper compares and analyzes their points on text types, and proposes that they differ in matters such as translation methods, steps, criteria, and approaches for translation criticism, whereas they also share much in common as for the classification of text types, the nature of translation, and the relation between translation and culture.
