Title: On the Origin, Essence and Functions of Metaphor from the Perspective of Cognition
Abstract: Analyzes the origin, essence and functions of metaphor from the perspective of cognition. Points out that owing to a person's physiological structure and limitations of his/her organs, he/she is inclined to talk about two different things as if they were the same, and the result is of course the creation of metaphor. Makes clear to the readers that metaphor is a kind of man's cognitive phenomenon as well as a result and tool of his/her cognitive activities. Reveals two chief functions of metaphor, namely, to organize human beings' conceptual system and instruct their experience, and to create new meanings and offer new angles of viewing things.
