Title: Minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy for renal calculi in children(report of 35 cases)
Abstract: 【Objective】 To report our experience in minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy(MPCNL) for renal calculi in children, and to evaluate its efficacy and safety.【Methods】 The clinical data of 35 children who underwent MPCNL were retrospectively reviewed. There were 23 boys and 12 girls, and their age ranged from 7 years to 15 years.Of this cohort, two children had UPJ obstruction, one child had previous pyelolithotomy and twelve had staghorn calculi. The mean stone burden was 403 mm2.【Results】 Among 35 cases who underwent MPCNL.31 children(88.57%) were completely stone-free after a single MPCNL.The remaining 4(11.43%) with residual stones were treated with a second stage MPCNL.The total stone clearance rate was 100%.Two cases with UPJ obstruction underwent antegrade pyeloureterostomy at the same time. One case had blood transfusion because of intraoperative bleeding. No severe postoperative complications and renal function damage were observed during follow-up.【Conclusions】 MPCNL is a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of children with renal calculi.
