Title: Study on antidepressant activity of different extracts from Hypericum wightianum
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To screen the antidepressant extracts of Hypericum wightianum and preliminarily investigate its mechanism of antidepressant.METHODS Extracts of Hypericum wightianum was divided into three different fractions, whose activity was evaluated by six antidepressant pharmacological models.RESULTS The medium and small dose groups of all extracts could significantly increase the escapable times of mice. The big dose group of all extracts could significantly shorten the immobility time of mice in swimming test. Each dose group of water and n-butanol extracts could shorten the immobility time of mice in the tail suspension test. While the test of the head twitches of mice induced by 5-HTP showed no significant difference among all fractions, and the test of the declining body temperature induced by Reserpine and Emetomorphine in mice also shows no significant difference among all extracts.CONCLUSION Water and n-butanol extracts of Hypericum wightianum have shown remarkable antidepressant activity, with water extracts better than n-butanol extracts.
