Title: Relationships between COX-2 and VEGF expressions and angiogenesis and clinical pathology in thyroid cancer
Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationships between Cyclooxygenase(COX-2) and angiogenesis and expressions of COX-2 and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in thyroid cancer and its clinical significance. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expressions of COX-2 and VEGF in 60 thyroid cancer,(15 thyroid)adenomas and 10 normal thyroid tissues. Results The expression rates of COX-2 and VEGF in thyroid cancer were higher than those in thyroid adenomas and normal tissues(P0.01).The expressions of COX-2 and VEGF in thyroid cancer presented positive correlation(r=0.636,P0.01).The expression rates of COX-2 in thyroid papillary cancer and undifferentiated cancer were 47.1% and 90.0% .The expression rates of VEGF in thyroid papillary cancer and undifferentiated cancer were 71.4% and 100%.The expression rates of COX-2 and VEGF in TNM Ⅰ and Ⅱ were lower than those in TNM Ⅲ and Ⅳ(P0.05).The expression rates of COX-2 and VEGF in thyroid cancer with lymph node metastasis were higher those that without lymph node metastasis((P0.05).)Conclusion COX-2 and VEGF express highly in thyroid cancer. The expressions of COX-2 and VEGF in thyroid cancer correlates with pathological type,TNM phase and lymph node metastasis of thyroid cancer.
