Title: Seismic behavior analysis and structural form selection for Chengdu Media Center Building
Abstract: Chengdu Media Center Building is an irregular structure, which is made up of a set of interlaced annexes and a high-rise office tower.Taking advantage of the triangle lattices in elevation, outer tube and inter frame system has good capability in bearing horizontal and vertical loads. The outer-tube adopts steel structure based on the analysis of structural performance, details of joint design, seismic behavior and construction feasibility. The inter-tube is abandoned according to analysis results. The three programs(steel structure, reinforced concrete structure and combined steel and concrete structure) are compared, and the steel structure is prefered.A Push-over analysis demonstrates that steel structure maintains elastic behavior subjected to earthquake intensity of 7 degree, and the maximum interstory drift ratio occurs at the structural elevation setback, meeting the deformation requirement in codes. With the increasing of loads, plastic hinges occur firstly at both corners and setback holes of the outer-tube,and then beam ends, meeting the strong column weak beam.Collapse occurs when the roof displacement becomes five times that of severe earthquake, resulting in maximum interstory drift ratio of structural top story exceeding 1/50.Therefore,the structure owns a high deformation capacity, totally meeting the requirement of non-collapse during severe earthquake. The result shows that the outer-tube and inter-frame structure has a good seismic behavior.
