Title: Relation Between Dermal Temperature and Electromyography in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus
Abstract: Objective To explore the association between dermal temperature and electromyography of patients with diabetes mellitus and establish a novel method for early diagnosing diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Methods One hundred inpatients with diabetes mellitus were randomly selected and divided into two groups : observation group (n = 50) with abnormal electromyography and control group (n=50) with normal electromyography. Dermal temperature of all cases was measured on the same day of electromyographyic examination. Results Among the patients whose interosseous digital temperature was above 33 ℃ and below 26 ℃, 75. 0% and 64. 7% cases showed abnormality in electromyography respectively (P0. 05). These changes in electromyography also appeared in 66. 67 % and 70. 6% cases with higher than 32 ℃ and lower than 26℃of dorsal pedal temperature respectively (P0. 05). Conclusion There exist some relations between dermal temperature and electromyography of diabetic patients.
