Title: Ureteral radiolucent calculi treated with transureteroscopic Holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy(report of 42 cases)
Abstract: Objective To improve the diagnosis and treatment of the ureteral radiolucent calculi. Methods From August 2003 to August 2008,42 patients with urinary tract radiotransparent calculi had been treated by holmium laser lithotripsy via ureteroscope. After reaching the stone under direct vision of transurethral ureteroscope, the cavity holmium laser lithotripsy was introduced to fragment the intraluminal stones and melt the polyps. Results The mean operation time of this series was 20 ± 3.2min(15~60 min).40 cases were removed completely in one session except 2 patients, whose upper calculi were flushed into the renal pelvis, indwelling double J tube underwent ESWL treatment. No ureteral mucosa avulsion, perforation, false passage and other severe complications occurred. Some of the patients had mild haematuria after the operation without fever or renal pain.36 cases had been followed up for 3 to 24 months(mean 7 months),and none of them had residual stones or ureteral stricture. Conclusion Holmium laser lithotripsy via ureteroscope is a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of urinary tract radiolucent calculi.
