Title: Variation of Wood Fiber Morphology in Castanopsis fissa Plantation
Abstract: [Objective] The study aimed to discuss the variation of wood fiber morphology in Castanopsis fissa plantation.[Method] With wood from Castanopsis fissa plantation for 23-year old, fiber length, fiber width, lumen diameter, double wall thickness, the ratio of length to width, the ratio of wall thickness to lumen diameter was tested.Variation of wood fiber morphology with the different height of stem and annual ring was discussed.[Result] Fiber length, fiber width, lumen diameter, double wall thickness, the ratio of length to width and the ratio of wall thickness to lumen diameter of wood from Castanopsis fissa plantation varied from 1098.2μm to 1224.6μm,24.22μm to 26.38μm,15.95 to 17.02μm,8.26μm to 9.36μm,43.37 to 51.12 and 0.521 to 0.555 respectively, and the average of fiber length, fiber width, lumen diameter, double wall thickness, the ratio of length to width and the ratio of wall thickness to lumen diameter was 1156.2μm,25.43μm,16.56μm,8.87μm,46.01 and 0.540.Fiber length, the ratio of length to width and the ratio of wall thickness to lumen diameter decreased with height and increased with growth ring.[Conclusion] Wood fiber from Castanopsis fissa plantation can meet the demands of fiber material and is suitable for paper and pulp industry.
