Abstract: The metrics of the Yi's poetry is fundamentally different from that of general Chinese poetry. Its basic form is which includes initial consonant, vowel and tone. The metrics of the Yi's documentary long poems represents the flexible application of syllable patterns of common poetry. Different rhyming patterns are used even within a single text, thus adding dynamism to the work, for instance, rhyming in every line, rhyming in every other line, rhyming in the end of the paragraph, rhyming in the beginning of sentence and sometimes in the middle of the sentence.
