Title: Effects of Cd /Pb interaction and amendment with sewage sludge on growth and accumulation of Cd and Pb by oilseed rape grown in contaminated soils
Abstract: A pot experiment was conducted using soils contaminated artificially with Cd or both Cd and Pb.The soil was then amended with 4% of sewage sludge and followed by planting of two oilseed rapes such as B.juncea and B.napus.The objectives were to study the effect of sewage sludge amendment and interaction between Cd and Pb on the growth of and Cd/Pb accumulation in tissues of B.juncea and B.napus.Experimental result showed that soil with high content of Cd/Pb slow down the growth of both species by reducing the dry matter, seedling height, and root length.Soil amended with sewage sludge has an enhancing effect on increasing the growth of both species. The accumulation of Cd and Pb by both oilseed rapes are increased in the sewage sludge amended soils compared with the control. The coexistence of Pb in Cd-contaminated soil has an enhancing effect on increasing the accumulation of Cd in root, stem, leaf of both rapeseed species.Increasing content of Cd in soil decreased accumulation of Pb in root, stem, leaf of both species.
