Title: Oxygen and Hydrogen Isotopes in Precipitation in Heihe River Basin,China
Abstract: Heihe River, one of the greatest inland rivers in China,is confronted with shortage of water resources due to unreasonable development and utilization. To utilize effectively the limited water resources, isotope techniques are widely used to study water cycle.Oxygen and hydrogen isotopes in precipitation are discussed based on the study of some precipitation samples in the middle basin and the mountain areas of Heihe River. Some conclusions are drawn as follows: The averaged δD and δ18O compositions have a relationship δD=4.1447δ18O-20.6852(‰),called as Local Meteoric Water Line(LMWL);The slope and the linear relation of the line for winter and autumn precipitations are respectively steeper and better than that for spring and summer precipitations; The low slope of LMWL indicates the first stage equilibrium condensation from evaporation in a non-equilibrium process, especially the enrichment in the heavy isotopic compositions caused by local evaporation during the rainfall processes in the arid regions; With different water atmosphere sources and water cycle, the variation range of deuterium excess in precipitation is far wide, and the deuterium excess is higher in the mountain areas and in winter than in the middle reaches and in summer correspondingly.
