Title: An analysis of maternal mortality in Xi'an city over a ten-years period.
Abstract: Objective To identify risk factors of maternal death and to provide a scientific basis for preventive intervention. Methods A retrospective study was conducted to analyze data from maternal death audit of Xi'an city over a period from 1995 to 2004. Results The average maternal mortality rate(MMR)over the period from 1995 to 2004 in Xi'an city was 50.12/100000(1221 died among 440 890 parturients).The first three causes of the death were orderly obstetric hemorrhage,pregnancy-induced hypertension and amniotic fluid embolism. Conclusion The United Nations Process Indicators for emergency obstetric care(EmOC)should be introduced and used extensively in our country to reduce MMR in Xi'an city and China.
