Title: Electrochemical Behaviour of Glassy Carbon Electrodes In Room Temperature AlCl_3-TMPAC Molten Salts
Abstract: The electrochemical behaviour of glassy carbon electrodes in an acidic room temperature molten salt aluminium trichloride-trimethylphenylmmonium chloride (AlCl_3, -TMPAC) were investigated using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The reduction of Al_2,Cl_7, ions was quasi-reversible and involved a nucleation and growth mechanism. Chronoamperometric ana- lysis showed that the deposition of aluminium was instantaneous three-dimensional nucleation with hemispherical diffusion-controlled growth.
