Title: Adsorption Capability of Palygorskite/Alumina Composite for Cr(VI) in Water
Abstract: Palygor skite clay was modified with alumina, and resultant palygorskite/alumina composite was used to adsorb Cr(Ⅵ) in water. The effects of adsorbent dosage, initial pH value of aqueous solution, and adsorption time on adsorbing efficacy were investigated. Moreover, the dynamic characteristics of the adsorption process were examined, and the adsorption equilibrium was discussed as well.It was found that modification of the clay by alumina generated composite with loose structure.Resultant composite at a dosage of 2.0 g/L had good adsorption capability for Cr(Ⅵ) in aqueous solution with a pH value of less than 6.0,while it costed 90 min to reach adsorption equilibrium.Besides, the adsorption process well followed pseudo-second-order dynamic model. The adsorption equilibrium could be well described with Langmuir isothermal adsorption equation, and the saturated adsorption capacity was 44.64 mg/g.
