Title: Ecocardiographic evaluation of the impact of PCI on the patients with myocardial infarction
Abstract: Objective To assess the late and long-term impact of percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) on the patient with myocardial infarction. Methods In 30 patients, successful PCI was performed(5.8±2.7) weeks after acute myocardial infarction, serial echocardiographic examinations were performed before(4.8±4.3) days, shortly after PCI(4.5±2.6) days and during follow-up(6.3±1.5) months after PCI to assess the changes in left ventricle volumes, systolic and diastolic function. Results Left ventricle volumes were decreased and systolic function was improved shortly after PCI and during follow-up,but left ventricle diastolic function was unchanged. Conclusions PCI performed during the recovery phase of acute myocardial infarction may significantly improve functional status of the patients.
