Title: The Grammaticalization of Da(打) in the Structure of Da(打)V
Abstract: The Chinese language has few affixes in the strict sense, still less verbal affixes. In ancient and modern Chinese, Da(打) is characterized by most scholars as kind of grammatical component near to affixes, yet little has been done in exploring its evolutionary process of grammaticalization. On the basis of its concrete meaning, came the semantic generalization, and the idiomatization in the specific Da(打)V structure. Later on, materialized the evolution from lexicalization to grammaticalization. However, its productivity has been fallen into a decline ever since in modern Chinese. Its evolution also reflects the complexity of language itself as a multi-influenced unified system.
