Title: Observations on the Efficacy of Scalp Points plus Lower He-sea Points in Treating Diarrhea-type Gastrointestinal Neurosis
Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of scalp points plus lower He-sea points in treating diarrhea-type gastrointestinal neurosis. Methods Fifty patients with diarrhea-type gastrointestinal neurosis were randomly allocated to needling and control groups. The needling group received acupuncture at scalp points plus lower He-sea points and control group took Western drugs. After treatment, the therapeutic effect was evaluated using the internationally accepted the Bowel Symptom Scale(BSS),the Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90) and the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale in each group of patients. Results The SCL-90 score and the SF-36 score improved more markedly in the needling group than in the control group. The total efficacy rate was high in the former. Conclusion Acupuncture at scalp points plus lower He-sea points is effective in treating diarrhea-type gastrointestinal neurosis. Its effect is superior to that of expectant treatment with drugs.
