Title: China’s Three Upsurges of Studying Abroad in Early 20th Century and Their Influences on Chinese Society
Abstract: In early 20th century,there were three upsurges of studying abroad in China.The first was surge of going to United States,which was connected with the boxer indemnity.The second was work-study program in France,and third was upsurge of studying in Soviet Union.The three upsurges had great influences on Chinese society.From history of thought and culture,Chinese nationality changed its attitude from passively taking foreign culture since mid Ming dynasty to actively sending its scholars abroad to absorb essence of foreign culture,which contributed greatly to narrowing gap between China and western countries and had great influences on China’s society.
