Title: Functionalist Approach to C-E Translation of Scientific Papers
Abstract: In reference to the theory of action, German functionalism puts forward the concepts of translation and translation action, providing effective directions for translation practice. This paper applies functionalist approaches to the translation of research reports on animal experimentations from Chinese to English. It suggests that the translator should participate in the designing of the process of translation action, attach importance to the communicative function of target text as well as its acceptability due to cultural difference, and may process the source text in translating when necessary.
