Title: Efficacy of rotating fetal head by hand in correction of abnormal occiput position in 43 cases
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the application of rotating fetal occiput by hand to correct persistent occipitoanterior position and occipitoposterior position during labor, so as to reduce the caesarean section rate.Methods From January 2004 to December 2005, forty-three pregnant women with persistent occipitoanterior or occipitoposterior position were successfully performed by rotating fetal head with hand, and fifty pregnant women with similar obstetric condition were treated without any intervention as control group.Results Among above-mentioned forty-three cases , it was succeeded in thirty-seven cases, and the rate of success was 86%.Conclusion During the stage of labor, manual rotation of malposition of fetal head is an effective method for decreasing the incidence of abnormal labor, thus the incidence of dystocia and cesarean section may be reduced.
