Title: Diagnosis of osteoporosis using vertebra bone mineral density measurement by quantitative computed tomography
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical value and to explore diagnostic standard of osteoporosis with vertebra bone mineral density(BMD)by measurement using quantitative computed tomography(QCT).Methods The BMD in vertebra of lumbar spine(L1-L4)were measured by QCT in 53 healthy middle-old-aged persons and 68 osteoporosis patients. Results The BMD of healthy middle-old-ages persons declined obviously with aging(P0.01).If the diagnostic standard of osteoporosis was BMD≤x-2.0SD,there were 68 patients.Which, the BMD values of different aged group were lower than the bone quantity block values. If the diagnostic criterion was BMD≤x-2.5SD,there were 60 cases. Conclusion As a method for diagnosing osteoporosis,QCT is highly sensitive, precise, reproducible and is easily applied.According to the diagnostic criterion with BMD≤x-2.0SD,it is more appropriate for clinical case and it can decrease rate of missed diagnosis.
