Title: A Study on Effects of Rating Methods in College English Writing Formative Assessment:A Comparative Study of Holistic and Mixed Rating Methods
Abstract: Writingroadmap2 is a formative assessment tool.This paper applies this tool to investigate the role of holistic and analytic scoring systems in formative assessment of college English writing course.The subjects of the project are 63 college English learners in China.The methods adopted in this study are observation and statistic analysis;and all the scores are testified by using SPSS.The results show that in College English formative assessment,the mixed rating methods of holistic and analytic scores could better help learners improve their writing levels.Based on the analysis,the paper also proposes that some considerations should be given to such integration of methods when mixed rating scales are used in writing formative assessment.
