Title: An Empirical Study on the Dynamic Relations between Population Urbanization and Economic Growth Based on the VAR Model —— Wuhan as an Example
Abstract: A vector auto regression model(VAR)that includes three indexes from Wuhan City(urbanization rate of registered permanent population, urbanization rate of non-registered permanent residents,GDP per capita)has analyzed the dynamic effect on urbanization and economic growth. The result indicates that urbanization forms a strong driving force for the economic growth. In particular,an increased urbanization rate of the registered permanent population has an prominent positive effect on the economic growth. The increase of economy often causes the lift of urbanization rate of the non-registered permanent residents, but does not affect much on the lift of that of the registered permanent population. As a result, the urbanization of the registered permanent population lags behind the economic growth and the urbanization of the non-registered permanent residents. To solve these problems,an urbanization model is to be established that features town clusters;urban spatial structure is to be optimized;diversified town clusters are to be developed;citizenship of population transferred from the countryside is to be promoted;urbanization rate of the registered permanent population is to be quickly raised. All these measures will give a powerful impetus to the economic growth.
