Title: On the Literary Activities of Southern Literati in the North during the Chen and Sui Dynasties
Abstract: In the late Sixth Century, many southern literati such as LIU Bian and JIANG Zong were forced to migrate from southern to northern China after the military victories of the Sui Dynasty in the south. The migrations had profound impacts not only on the literary tastes of the imperial members of the Northern Zhou( 557- 581),Sui( 581- 618) and Tang( 618- 907) Dynasties, but also on the shaping of literature in the latter two Dynasties. Interest in the Southern Dynasty's literary style became widespread in the Northern Dynasty due to migration, which shaped the style and taste of Early Tang literature.
