Title: The Motif and Significance of Remorse in Pray for Rain Poetry of Tang Dynasty
Abstract: In Tang Dynasty,the ceremony of praying for rain had followed the ancient system that used the special ceremony named Yun Ji. It needed to worship the universe at Yuan Qiu. And also the pray for rain followed ancient rites,to worship the god of wind and rain,to pray to every element that has connected to rain and also the ancestor and country. Those prays for rain poetry in Tang Dynasty had described and chanted the etiquette of worship ceremony,the colorful style and the officials and the public worshiping together. The pray for rain ceremony was conducted at every important location,had used special way to pray and worship. At the time of praying for rain,both the royal court and the state officials all expressed the remorse. The monarch reflected on his ownmisconductand learned from the ancestor. The court officials would have self-criticism of theirdereliction of duty. So the Tang Dynasty pray for rain poetry reflected group value,and had positive social effects and practical significance.
