Title: The diagnostic value of CT-guided percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy in patients with pneumonic diseases
Abstract: Objective To explore the diagnostic value and complication of percutaneous CT-guided lung biopsy for pulmonary lesions. Methods CT-guided percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy was carried out in 83 consecutive patients with pneumonic diseases dated from Dec 2007 to Aug 2008, followed by pathological examinations. Accuracy, pathologic data was analyzed in all cases. Results 79 out of 83 cases were performed successfully, and 60 cases of 79 were proved to be lung cancer. The complications included mild pneumothorax (n =23), and small hemop tysis (n = 17). All complications didn’t represent the need for medical specific treatment. Conclusion CT-guided percutaneous needle biopsy in pneumonic diseases is a safe and effective diagnostic means, which has a high diagnostic rate and few complications. Its accuracy relates to the size of the target lesion.
