Title: Application of Chelator in Phytoremediation of Heavy Metals Contaminated Soils:A Review
Abstract: There are two general approaches to strengthen phytoextraction efficiency for heavy metal contaminated soils:the first is the enhancement of hyperaccumulator biomass;the second is to increase heavy metal concentration in hyperaccumulative plant. This paper mainly reviewed the advances of the chemically enhanced phytoextraction, including the mechanisms of chelator, the sorts of chelators, heavy metal mobilization effects and accumulation of the target heavy metal induced by chelators, adverse effects on eco-environment caused by the use of chelating agents, and so on.In addition,post-harvest assessment and prospects for future development were also discussed. It was suggested that chelating agents induced phytoextraction would be a promising technical to remediate heavy metal contaminated soils.
