Title: A comparative study of olanzapine combined with lithium in the treatment of mania episode
Abstract: Objective To explore the efficacy and side effects of olanzapine combined with lithium in the treatment of mania episode. Methods Seventy-two patients with mania episode were randomly assigned to receiving olanzapine or haloperidol both combined with lithium for 6 weeks. The efficacy and safety were evaluated with Bech-rafaelsen mania rating scale(BRMS) and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS) respectively. Results In both groups , total scores of BRMS were significantly reduced from baseline,and there were no singnifcant differences between two groups (p0.05). However , olanzapine group had fewer side effects than haloperdol.Conclusion Olanzapine combined with lithium is safe and effective in treatment of mania epsiode .
