Title: New Thoughts on Cultural Origins of Hakka Folk Songs
Abstract: Current researchers on the cultural origins of Hakka folk songs hold the view that Hakka folk songs are originated in central China, emphasizing the direct influence of the The Book of Odes. But research data show that Hakka folk songs have developed from two different origins: one is the cultural heritage of Wu and Chu cultures since Spring and Autumn period(770-476 BC);the other is the influence of such southern ethnic minorities as Baiyue and WuLingMan.The latter exerts a greater impact on Hakka folk songs. Therefore, the origin of Hakka folk songs is not in central China but in regions where the Hakka people inhabit in Jiangxi,Fujian and Guangdong.
