Title: The effects of Tangketai on lipid level and lipid peroxidation in diabetic rats
Abstract: Objective To observe the effects of Tangketai on lipid level and lipid peroxidation in diabetic rats. Methods Diabetic rat model was duplicated with fat-and sugar-rich diet and streptozotocin.Totally 37 rats with diabetes were divided into 4 groups, the diabetic model group and the low-,medium-and high-dose treatment groups. In addition, other normal SD rats served as controls. The diabetic rats in the treatment groups had been fed with Tangketai for eight weeks, and then had their levels of serum lipids, antioxidant enzymes and peroxidative products determined. The morphological changes in their livers were observed. Results The serum levels of triglyceride(TG),free fatty acids(FFA) and malondialdehyde(MDA) were significantly lower in the treatment groups than in the diabetic model group(P0.05).Compared with the diabetic model group, there was a significant increase in serum superoxide diamutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) and a significant decrease in serum total cholesterol(TC) in the medium-and high-dose treatment groups(P0.05).Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) significantly decreased and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) significantly increased in the high-dose treatment group compared with those in the diabetic model group(P0.05).Tangketai of different dosage had relieving effects of different degree on liver fatty degeneration of the diabetic rats. Conclusion Tangketai can regulate lipid metabolism, enhance the capability of anti-lipid peroxidation and improve liver steatosis of diabetic rats.
