Title: Leptomeningeal Lesions:Comparison of FLAIR,Contrast-Enhanced T_1WI and Contrast-Enhanced FLAIR Sequences
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of fluid-attenuated inversion recovery(FLAIR),contrast-enhanced T1WI and contrast-enhanced FLAIR sequences in detection of leptomeningeal lesions. Methods 26 patients with a variety of leptomeningeal lesions confirmed by clinic and imageology were examined.MRI protocols included FLAIR, contrast-enhanced T1WI and contrast-enhanced FLAIR sequences. The comparison among these protocols was made to determine which was the best in depicting the lesions. Results Leptomeningeal lesions showed either diffusely or locally abnormal hyper-intensity along sulci or cistern on three sequences. The lesions were showed by contrast-enhanced FLAIR in all 26 cases, by contrast-enhanced T1WI only in 13 cases and by unenhanced FLAIR in 11 cases. The statistic analysis showed that there was significant difference among them ( χ2=29.346,P0.01).Conclusion Contrast-enhanced FLAIR imaging is superior to unenhanced FLAIR and contrast-enhanced T1WI in detection of leptomeningeal lesions, especially in detecting early lesions.
