Title: Effect of phytoestrogen on cholinergic neurons in basal forebrain of ovariectomized rats
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the effect of phytoestrogen on cholinergic neurons in basal forebrain of ovariectomized rats in order to explore the protecting mechanism of phytoestrogen on the central nervous system. Methods: After 5 weeks, the number of cholinergic neurons was observed by using choline acetyltransferase immunohistochemical ABC methods in the medial septum and vertical limb of diagonal band. Results:The number of cholinergic neurons in group of phytoestrogen, estrogen and sham operation was significantly higher than that in the control group in the medial septum and vertical limb of diagonal band (P0.05) Conclusion:The results indicate that phytoestrogen treatment can obviously increase cholinergic neurons expression on basal forebrain of ovariectomized rats,so it plays a role in protecting neurode-generation disease in the central nervous system, thus may prevent and treat Alzheimer Disease.
