Title: Clinical observation of medial patellofemoral ligament overlap and lateral patellar retinaculum release in treatment of recurrent patellar dislocation
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the outcome of medial patellofemoral ligament overlap and lateral patellar retinaculum release in treatment of recurrent patellar dislocation. Methods:Ten patients(13 knees)with recurrent dislocation or subluxation of patella, diagnosed by clinical and arthroscopical standard, were treated with medial patellofemoral ligament overlap and lateral patellar retinaculum release or medial transfer of the tibial tuberosity. The functions of knee were evaluated with Lysholm's score preoperatively and postoperatively. Results:Ten patients were followed up for 3~15(averagely 9) months. No patellar dislocation occurred postoperatively.Appre-hensive test, patella tilt test were negative. The average Lysholm's score was about(69.6±3.9) points preoperatively and(94.1±3.7) points postoperatively. Conclusions:Medial patellofemoral ligament overlap and lateral patellar retinaculum release for the treatment can effectively cure recurrent dislocation of the patella, which is helpful for the stability of the knee joint.
