Title: Optimum aerodynamic design of transonic airfoils based on response surface methodology
Abstract: In this paper, the optimization design of the transonic airfoil is performed by the Response Surface Methodology(RSM). The flow solver is based on Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The quadratic polynomials are employed to construct RS model and the set of candidate design points is selected to satisfy D-optimality. The design results indicate that RSM can be successfully applied to improve aerodynamic performance of a airfoil at single or multiple design-points, subject to specified constraints by less flow field computation cost, and will be very attractive for practical use because of its high design quality.
