Roots of Allium sativum were treated respectively for 6,12,24,48,72,96 h with two concentrations of colchicine 0.1% and 0.01%. The results indicated that the mitotic index firstly rose with the increase of treating time of colchicine, and the highest mitotic index(14.29%) could be gained, which was 6.8 times higher than the controlled group after the root tip cells of Allium sativum were treated for 24 hour by 0.01% colchicines. And the mitosis index began to decrease when the root tip cells were treated for a longer time. All data from 0.01% colchicine were higher than those from 0.1% colchicine. It suggested that the mitosis of Allium sativum root tip cells was enhanced in appropriate concentrations of colchicines and treating time, but the improper concentration of colchicine and duration time could result in the contrast.Read More
