Abstract: Marx and Engels,in their later years, put forward a famous assumption that the Russia could realize socialism without passing through the capitalist “caudinae valley ,Marx expounded the possibility of the non\|capitalist future while Engels considered that Russia was more likely to become a capitalist state because of the backward nature of the Russian commune and the rapid development of capitalism in reality.This ideological discrepancy between Marx and Engels is due to the changes of historical conditions of the society.In fact,the spiritual essence of their ideas is the same and their ideas are the model of appling their ideas of historical materialism to the study of the development of the non\|western societies.
