Methods 26 patients(26 eyes) diagnosed as retinal detachment with inferior PVR underwent vitrectomy combined with tamponade of heavy silicone oil. While 26 eyes with the similar type of retinal detachment underwent vitrectomy combined with tamponade of silicone oil.All patients were changed at random.Afteroperatively, all cases were followed up for 7 to 12 months.Comparing the rate of retinal retachment, visual acuity, ocular pressure and emulsification between tow groups. Results At the end of follow up,the HSO group(26 eyes)achieved anatomical success in 24 eyes, while the SO group(26 eyes)achieved anatomical success in 18eyes,the difference between tow groups is significant statistically(P0.05).The acuity increased in most patients with retinal retachment. There was no severe inflammatory reaction in all patients. Conclusion Vitrectomy with tamponade of heavy silicone oil is effective for retinal detachment combined with inferior PVR.It can decrease the rate of redetachment of retinal detachment combined with inferior PVR after operation. Conclusion Heavy siliconeoil in vitrectomy is effective for PVR and retinal detachment.Read More
