Title: Subjective well-being and personality traits of left-behind children
Abstract: Objective To explore the relationships between the personality characteristics and the subjective wellbeing of left-behind children,and to put forward the cultivation of healthy personality in order to improve the subjective sense of happiness of left-behind children.MethodsThis study chose 650 pupils of grades four,five,six who come from Fengman District II primary school in Jilin city and Jilin city Experimental Primary School of Korean Nationality as the object.The children's version of Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ)revised by Chen Zhonggeng and General Well-Being Schedule were adopted for the study.Results There were significant differences in the personality dimensions of introverted-outgoing(t=-7.760,P0.001)neurotic(t=11.662,P0.001)and psychotic personality(t=13.647,P0.001)between left-behind children and non-left-behind children.The personality dimensions of introversion and extraversion were positively related to the subjective well-being of the left-behind children;the personality dimensions of neuroticism and psychoticism were negatively related to the subjective well-being of the leftbehind children.The analysis between left-behind children and the non-left-behind children showed that the extraversion and neuroticism had the strongest prediction to the subjective well-being of left-behind children.Conclusions The personalities of left-behind children have great impact on the subjective well-being of the children,therefore,not only the children's guardians but also the educators should pay close attention to the cultivation of left-behind children's healthy personality.
