Title: Clinical study of detection of calcifications in nodules of thyroid gland by high-frequency ultrasonogrphy
Abstract: [Objective] To discuss the clinical value of calcifications in nodules of thyroid gland detected by high-frequency ultrasonogrphy.[Methods] The ultrasound images of 93 patients including 121 nodules with calcifications were analyzed and compared with pathological examinations.[Results] According to the calcification types,40 nodules with microcalcification,72 nodules with intranodular coarse calcification,5 nodules with peripheral calcification and 4 nodules with solitary calcification were detected.Thirty-five nodules with microcalcification nodules(87.50%) and 10 nodules with intranodular coarse calcification(13.89%) were proved to be malignancy by pathological result. There was a significant difference between the nodules with microcalcification and those with intranodular coarse calcification in malignant and benign rates(P0.05).The nodules with peripheral calcification and isolated calcification were proved to be benign.[Conclusion] The different calcifications in nodules of thyroid gland can be detected by high-frequency ultrasonography clearly and it has an important clinical value in judging nature of nodules of thyroid gland.
