Title: Expression and prognostic significance of ERCC1 in non-small cell lung cancer tissues
Abstract: OBJECTIVE:To investigate the expression of ERCC1 in the patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the clinical significance.METHODS:Immunohistochemical staining of ERCC1 was performed by the standard SP technique for the 129 cases of NSCLC tissues and 10 cases of normal lung tissues nearby the cancer tissues. All the cases were followed up.RESULTS:The positive rate of ERCC1 expression in NSCLC was in 48.1%.The expression of ERCC1 had no difference in different pathological classifications, clinical stages, and patients' age and sex (P0.05).The patients with low expression of ERCC1 had significantly longer survival time than those with high expression of ERCC1 (P=0.000 1),but the stratified analysis showed among patients with high expression of ERCC1,the overall survival was significantly longer in the Ⅰ group, and the edian overall survival time was 72 months and 60 months respectively (P=0.016 5).By contrast in the Ⅱ and ⅢA groups among patients with low expression of ERCC1,the overall survival was significantly longer than those with high expression. In the Ⅱ group, median overall survival time was 60 smonths and 23 months respectively (P=0.000 0).In the ⅢA group, and the median overall survival time was 46 months and 15 months resepctively (P=0.011 0).CONCLUSIONS:ERCC1 is expressed in NSCLC.The expression of ERCC1 has no difference in different pathological classifications, clinical stages, and patients' age and sex.In the patients with high expression of ERCC1,the overall survival is significantly longer in the Ⅰ group. The patients with high expression of ERCC1 appear not to benefit from cisplatin-based adjuvant chemotherapy in the Ⅱ and ⅢA groups. The express level of ERCC1 is an predict prognosis factor.
